How do I categorise a transaction?

Last updated on Sep 25, 2026

Your banking transactions appear in Transactions automatically. Give each one a category and a property, and your reports stay accurate.

Quick way: in the table, select Categorize or Assign property on a transaction and pick from the list. To find everything that still needs attention, use the Missing category and Missing property quick filters.

Full details: select the transaction to open its details, then set:

  • Property, the property it belongs to.
  • Category. Only categories that fit the direction of the money are offered, so money in shows revenue categories and money out shows expense categories.
  • Note, for anything you'll want to remember later.
  • Attachments, for receipts and invoices (Pro).
  • Mark as reviewed, once you're happy with it.

Transactions in an account linked to a property are tagged to that property automatically. Rent collected through Roofteller is categorised for you: rent goes to Rents, fees go to Fees & Other Revenue, and deposits go to Security Deposits.

To tidy up several transactions at once, select them and choose Mark as reviewed or Delete. Deleted transactions go to Trash.
