How do I set up rent collection?

Last updated on Sep 25, 2026

You set up rent collection once per unit. It takes six short steps, and you can select Finish later at any time to save a draft.

Wizard step 1 with all six steps in the rail

  1. Select rental property. Choose the property, then the unit.
  2. Add rent details.
    • How rent is paid: Yearly or Monthly.
    • The lease term, and when it starts.
    • The rent amount, and when rent is due.
    • Optional: up to 5 recurring fees billed with rent, such as a service charge or an estate levy.
    • Optional: a late fee, either a one-time fee after a grace period or a daily fee with a monthly maximum.
    • Optional: an annual rent increase, for fixed-term yearly leases longer than a year.
  3. Add fees & deposits. Optional: a security deposit, prorated rent, and one-time fees such as a move-in fee.
  4. Receiving bank accounts. Choose the account that rent is paid into. You can send deposits and fees to different accounts, which keeps a tenant's deposit apart from your rent.
  5. Review setup. Check everything, then select Continue to start collecting.
  6. Invite your tenant. See How do I invite my tenant?

Rent details: yearly, fixed term, ₦2.4m

Receiving accounts: rent and deposit going to different accounts

You need an open Roofteller account to receive rent. If you don't have one yet, the Receiving bank accounts step lets you add one.

Rent collected through Roofteller is categorised in your books automatically.
