What do I need to verify my identity?

Before you open your first account, we verify your identity once. Have these ready:

What you'll need	Why we need it
Phone number. A Nigerian number that can receive a 6-digit code	So we can reach you about your account and confirm it's really you
BVN and NIN. Your 11-digit Bank Verification Number and 11-digit National Identification Number	Our bank partners are required by CBN to verify your identity. Your BVN and NIN are how we confirm who you are
Government-issued ID. A clear photo of your NIN card, driver's licence, international passport or voter's card, plus its number. JPEG or PNG, up to 5 MB	To match the person applying to the identity on your BVN and NIN
Proof of address. An electricity bill not older than 3 months (JPEG, PNG or PDF, up to 5 MB), your street address, city, state, meter number and distribution company	Banks must confirm where their customers live. A recent electricity bill is the standard proof
Next of kin. Their name, relationship to you, mobile number and address	Someone we can contact about your account if we can't reach you

To start:

Go to Accounts, then select Open banking account.
Choose Individual and work through the five steps. Your name and date of birth fill in from your BVN and NIN records.
Select Submit application.

You can leave and come back. Your application saves as you go, and you'll see Continue Application when you return. On the mobile app, the same form opens inside the app.
